Configuration of Juno Environment

Before Orchestra Juno can be used, the environment must be configured.
This can be done in the file
Startscripts/Windows/orchestra_env.bat
(or Startscripts/Unix/orchestra_env.sh for Linux).

rem -------- Adjust these values
set ORC_JAVA_HOME=D:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.8.0_181
set ORC_HOME=D:\temp\orchestra_juno_v2
rem --------

rem -------- Uncomment the following line if Juno should start in standalone mode
REM set CMDLINE_OPTS=--enableStandaloneUse
rem --------

rem -------- Memory settings
set JVMMS=256
set JVMMX=1024
set JVMSS=4000
rem --------
  • set ORC_JAVA_EXEC=%ORC_JAVA_HOME%\bin\java
  • set ORC_HOME_WEBINF=%ORC_HOME%\WEB-INF
SettingUsageDefaultPossible values
ORC_HOMEOverrides the default value if not empty. Defines the folder where Orchestra is located (sub-folders include themes, WEB-INF, etc.).Empty, uses a relative path ./orchestra.Any path, relative or absolute on the file system. E.g., ORC_HOME="C:/Orchestra Juno/5.1/orchestra". Use double quotation marks if there are spaces in the path.
ORC_JAVA_HOMEOverrides the default value if not empty. Defines the path to the Java folder of the Java version for Orchestra.Empty, automatically retrieves Java version from subdirectory "Java" or from the Windows registry.Any path, relative or absolute on the file system. E.g., "C:/Program Files/Java/jre21". Use double quotation marks if there are spaces in the path.
CMDLINE_OPTSUncomment this line if Juno should be used in standalone mode.Not used, Juno starts in proxy mode.--enableStandaloneUse.
JVMMSInitial memory pool size in MB.256 MB
JVMMXMaximum memory pool size in MB.1 GB
JVMSSThread stack size in KB.4000
  • orchestra_juno.cmd (or orchestra_juno.sh)
ParameterDescription
-Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=truePrefers IPv4 communication over IPv6. Speeds up test engine startup in some environments where IPv6 is not rolled out but enabled on the machine itself.

Configuration of Logging

The configuration properties for logging are stored in the following file:
<installation dir>/base/classes/logging.properties

############################################################
# Default Logging Configuration File
#
# You can use a different file by specifying a filename
# with the java.util.logging.config.file system property.
# For example java -Djava.util.logging.config.file=myfile
############################################################

############################################################
# Global properties
############################################################

# "handlers" specifies a comma-separated list of log handler
# classes. These handlers will be installed during VM startup.
# Note that these classes must be on the system classpath.
# By default, we only configure a ConsoleHandler, which will only
# show messages at the INFO and above levels.
# handlers= java.util.logging.ConsoleHandler
handlers= java.util.logging.FileHandler

# To also add the ConsoleHandler, use the following line instead.
# handlers= java.util.logging.FileHandler, java.util.logging.ConsoleHandler

# Default global logging level.
# This specifies which kinds of events are logged across
# all loggers. For any given facility, this global level
# can be overridden by a facility-specific level.
# Note that the ConsoleHandler also has a separate level
# setting to limit messages printed to the console.
# There are seven levels: SEVERE (highest value), WARNING, INFO,
# CONFIG, FINE, FINER, and FINEST (lowest value).
.level = WARNING

############################################################
# Handler-specific properties.
# Describes specific configuration information for handlers.
############################################################

# Default file output is in the user's home directory.
java.util.logging.FileHandler.pattern = ../../logs/orchestra_%g.mlog
java.util.logging.FileHandler.limit = 250000
java.util.logging.FileHandler.count = 4
java.util.logging.FileHandler.formatter = emds.log.context.StandardFormatter
note

It is required that the log directory exists already (as specified in the value of java.util.logging.FileHandler.pattern) and that Juno has permissions to write to it.

Please use slashes instead of backslashes when specifying the path. In this example, orchestra_%g.mlog is the name pattern of the log files. The parameter %g will be replaced by a generated sequence number for the series of log files.

  • java.util.logging.FileHandler.limit specifies the maximum size of each log file in bytes.
  • java.util.logging.FileHandler.count specifies the maximum number of log files.

The value of .level determines the logging accuracy. It is recommended to keep this value at WARNING.

The possible options are:

LevelDescription
SEVEREIndicates only serious failures.
WARNINGIndicates also potential problems.
INFOIndicates also informational messages.
CONFIGIndicates also static configuration messages.
FINE, FINER, FINESTIndicates detailed messages drilled down to every single message.
